• Artificial Trees: Modern faux trees have grown massively in popularity because they are incredibly convenient and mess-free. While they are manufactured, buying a high-quality artificial tree that you can carefully fluff, shape, and reuse for 10 or 20 years makes it a fantastic, budget-friendly investment.

NOTE: My vote is the real evergreen tree! There is nothing like the smell of a fresh tree! I've seen some places now where you can purchase a tree in a pot and then plant it outside after Christmas! My Mom always grew a bunch of Nandina shrubs in her yard so that she could take clippings of the red berries and use them to help decorate her tree.

Budget Friendly Decorating: This is something that my Mom did one year and would be perfect if you are single and don't want to shell out the money for a big 6' tree for yourself, or live in a small house or apartment and don't have room for a big tree.  She just picked up a small tree and decorated the tree and the little table that she set it on.

Leigh’s Festive Holiday Decorating Tips

Decorating the tree shouldn't feel like a chore—it's an experience! Here are a few simple ways to turn the day into a cozy family celebration:

• Set the Mood: Turn on your favorite holiday music playlist, brew a warm pot of spiced apple cider, and light a pine-scented candle.

• Celebrate the Highlights: Don't worry about making the tree look "picture perfect" like a department store display. The most beautiful trees are the ones that blend timeless family heirloom ornaments with the messy, priceless handmade crafts created by the kids over the years.

• A "Tree-Shaped" Snack: To keep the theme going, you can build a beautiful, tree-shaped holiday fruit platter using green kiwi slices, green grapes, and bright red strawberry "ornaments" served with a side of homemade yogurt dip! This was my first attempt at making a Christmas Tree produce tray.  I used 100% vegetables.  In doing it again, I would use some fruit - like maybe swapping out some of the Cherry Tomatoes for Strawberries, although decent ones can be hard to find in December. I would do less broccoli and maybe some rows of green kiwis. The yellow bell pepper star on top was perfect. Decorations can be green and black olives, blueberries, dried cranberries, or whatever you love! Pomegranate seeds also make great ornaments sprinkled over the tree!

This is one of the many charcuterie boards I did for the Holidays. Something like this would be perfect to do for a family gathering while decorating the Christmas tree! The rule is simple - put whatever cheese, crackers, meats, nuts & seeds, fruits, veggies, dips and desserts that you and your family love!

I don't do a lot of processed sugar, but sometimes when I'm doing a produce tray, I will stick a small bowl of some red licorice (at Christmas) and maybe some individually wrapped Christmas bark chocolates just for fun and a small treat!
